Local Interest on KVIE: Patris the Artist

click here to watch the online segment of Rob on the Road:
Local Interest on KVIE
Click the Local interest link above to go on line and view this segment of Rob on the Road when he came to my studio in Oak Park and interviewed me about my art, my studio and my art journey through life.  He did an amazing job of making a beautiful story.

Thank you to everyone in my life and in my world who has been part of my art journey and for all the wonderful people I've had the opportunity to interface with because of art and creativity somehow connecting us together.

I'm grateful and humbled by this opportunity to share my story with a wider public audience and hopefully some of the life lessons I've learned on this journey as an artist will bring hope, inspiration, and joy to those watching this segment of Rob on The Road, which airs publicly on TV Monday Dec. 23 at 7:30 pm - 8 pm.

Let the journey continue!  Make Art!

Plein Air painting from Wednesday Morning Urban Landscape Painting Club

This is a little plein air piece I did awhile ago with my painting buddies during one of our Wednesday morning urban landscape plein air outings.  Lots of fun, good artists friends, a good painting challenge and generally lunch afterwards makes Wednesday my favorite day of the week.

3 Persimmons Still Life Study

My still life study from Elio's class at my studio on Tuesday.  I am learning so much and I just love listening to him speak about art, painting, and galleries.  He is an awesome teacher and I feel so fortunate to have someone of his caliber teaching a weekly (mostly) painting class at my studio.

My Pink Bike

A plein air painting I did of my pink bike during one of our Wednesday morning Urban Plein Air Painting outings downtown.  This one I did have to go back to the studio and do a little more refinement on.

Pink Hat with Book

Another pink hat painting I did recently.  Abbie brought it in for her class that she teaches on Thursdays at my studio and I fell in love with it and begged her to leave it for a little while till I could do some paintings of it.  Pink is my color after all!

A super fun Plein Air Painting Trip with good friends

Scoping out some good painting spots up near Murphys, CA with Abbie and Andy, my super painting pals and wonderful friends.

Beautiful fall colors everywhere.  Let's Paint!!

A great time of painting the beautiful scenery with good friends....;

Andy and Abby are the best painting pals!  We painted.  We critiqued our work at night.  We enjoyed super yummy dinners after a long day of painting. . And we watched art movies in the evening.  Are we total art nerds or what? Love hanging out with fellow artists!!

Thanks guys for making it a most memorable plein air Painting Trip. Looking forward to another painting trip sometime!!
Here's to some great plein air painting, wonderful artist camaraderie, and 4 star accommodations at Greenhorn Resort in Angels Camp.  Make Art!!!!

The Best Birthday Party I've Ever Had

Conrad shared with us his Spin Art cycle the night before at Sacramento Bike Party and during the party.  It was a super big hit!  Pedal power and spinning paint make art!
Here's a pic from last night's Bike Party with the Spin Art in action:

Yeah--spin art was a big hit at Bike Party and the Birthday Party.
Our musician friends are amazing!
Good friends and good food.  New friends and close friends. Artists and art models; art teachers and neighbors.  A wonderful mix of music, art, friendships and creative energy flowing and filling the studio.

Wonderful music to listen to and dance to -  performed by some very talented friends and neighbors sharing their musical gifts with all of us throughout the evening.  An amazing mix of art and music, food and friends and fun.  That's the perfect combo for the best birthday party ever.

We danced.  We enjoyed live music.  We ate delicious Mexican food catered by Juan In A Million (thanks to winning a low bid silent auction item at an Art Show earlier this spring).  We talk and laughed.  We met new friends and enjoyed the company of those dear to us. The studio and gallery was alive with  wonderful creative energy and everyone enjoyed a super fun party.  Thank you everyone for making Nov. 2, 2013 a treasured day in my heart forever.  I am truly blessed to have the richness of friends, art, music and creativity surrounding me and filling my life.

Plein Air Painting in the Park

Autumn is coming and the fall colors are gorgeous.  We went out to McClatchy  Park near my studio to paint on Thursday during Abbie's class yesterday.  This tree caught my eye and so I did a quick study.

Pink Bike is the perfect urban plein air painting transportation.  It can hold all my plein air gear.  Plus the weather was absolutely perfect bicycle riding weather yesterday.  Loving the autumn!!!

Outside My Studio Door

.
A painting I started right outside my studio door.  I began it en plein air, then studio work, then plein air, then studio to finish it up.  I actually got to meet my new neighbors moving into the Broadway Triangle Project by painting right outside my studio.
And here's a view right out the front door of the house where I grew up in Northwest Montana.  I took this picture last week while visiting my Dad who still lives in the very same house.  Who would not be influenced to become an artist and paint nature's beauty when surrounded by this everyday?
Another view just down the road from where I used to live.  I need to spend a few weeks up here in Montana and just paint next year.

Still Life Study from Michael Siegel Workshop, Sacramento

This is the painting I did this past weekend in our Michael Siegel Workshop here at my studio.  I learned so much and am so appreciative to study with this master artist who came up from LA to teach us.  I wish he lived here so I could take his class every week!!

Black Shoe Love

So the owner of the black pumps finally came by the studio because she had left them here after an event she put on with the Sacramento Business Journal a few weeks ago.   (black pumps have never been the answer to  an after-event clean up)

Art exhibit at the Art, Wine, and Food Classic with NeighborWorks

It was a fun event and I met lots of new people who viewed my artwork, enjoyed some great food and wine that evening, and listened to some pleasant live music near my vendor table.

Someone's high heels

What happens to high heels
left in the gallery after a business event?  They become art! I think the owner took them off when we were cleaning up after the event and put on more comfortable shoes and forgot to take them with her when she left.  I saw them laying there and quickly put them to work -- Make Art. Be Art!

Lake Near Donner Pass

A plein air painting I did at the CAC retreat up at Tappan Lodge. A great weekend with my two painting buds, Abby and Andy. Nothing better than painting with good friends, surrounded by beautiful scenery to paint, and someone cooking breakfast and dinner for you.  Let's do it again!

2 hour head study from POP UP Friday

A recent charcoal head study I did using only massing to begin with and trying to avoid any initial outlining--only masses of general tonal shapes next to each other.  I added some contour lines at the end.

On Tuesdays from 6:30 pm - 9 pm, I hold an open figure drawing session at my studio and we work on short poses with a live model.  It's great practice and I always enjoy working in different mediums and trying different things.
